About Element Manchester

Element Manchester was established through the amalgamation of 2 laboratories based in Salford into a purpose built facility in Centenary Park in April 2007. The routine and coatings laboratories were initially founded in 1990 as part of the MTS International Group.

With a highly developed expertise in coatings testing, the lab supports customers at all stages of the coatings life cycle, from production pre-qualification testing and application through to onsite inspection of construction materials and protection systems.  Our Manchester teams provide coatings testing services across a range of services in the Oil and Gas sector, covering pipelines, rigs, chemical plants and ships. Technical disciplines include Cathodic Disbondment, NORSOK, ageing and marine coatings performance.

Manchester’s mechanical testing capabilities include all forms of destructive testing encompassing static tests such as tensile, hardness, Charpy and Izods, with a dedicated machine shop to ensure rapid sample processing and turnaround times. The metallurgical engineers and technicians within Element Manchester utilize leading technology to perform the metallographic examination of materials. Metallographic evaluations are performed using an array of microscopy equipment allowing a spectrum of techniques to be applied.

The laboratory has accreditation UKAS ISO/IEC 17025 according to schedule for LAB 1001, with approvals from the Chinese Class Society, Lloyds Class Society, Rolls Royce.
