Element provides Antenna Pattern Measurement (APM) and Over the Air (OTA) services. Our test chamber is designed for fully compliant radiated wireless antenna measurements over the frequency range of 400 MHz to 6 GHz. 

Element's Antenna Pattern Measurement test chamber was designed and built by ETS Lindgren. The model AMS-8923-195 Lab includes a multi-antenna array which is a ring that houses twenty-three (23) dual-polarized measurement antennas spaced every 15º. The turntable/positioner for the device under test (DUT) provides continuous rotation along the phi axis with minimized reflections through the use of low dielectric materials throughout this fully anechoic room (FAR.) The room is also equipped with a goniometer to improve that 3D resolution from 15º down to 1º as needed. An integrated laser alignment system assists with DUT positioning, and with an integrated high-speed switch controller, the system provides fast switching between antennas for accelerated testing.

Cellular Testing

The system supports cellular testing capability per the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA) Test Plan for Mobile Station Over the Air (OTA) performance. As required for OTA testing, this chamber supports testing for both Total Radiated Power (TRP) and Total Isotropic Sensitivity (TIS) measurements according to the CTIA specifications. It is designed for testing various antenna devices and mobile handsets with or without a simulated human head or hand. This includes mobile stations, handsets and the incorporation of pre-certified modules at the system level. The test system is compliant with software and hardware requirements defined by the CTIA for testing mobile handsets.

The following technologies can be tested: GSM, CDMA, GPRS, WCDMA, 1xEVDO, HSUPA/HSPA+, HSDPA, LTE-SISO

Total Radiated Power (TRP) of the Device
  • Plots show 3D patterns with magnitude and direction of radiating energy

Total Isotropic Sensitivity (TIS) of the Device
  • Minimum received power required to achieve a specific bit error rate (BER)

Efficiency

With an integrated high-speed switch controller, the system provides fast switching between antennas for accelerated testing.  It is capable of making fully-compliant 3-channel TRP (GSM) measurements in under 4 minutes.  CDMA and WCDMA measurement are slightly longer due to the 100ms dwell time required by the standard for these technologies. Typical TIS measurement time can be as much as 55 minutes depending on the technology.
