Under the Radio Equipment Directive 2014/EU/53, manufacturers, distributors and importers must comply with the standards for wireless testing and certification to place their wireless devices on the market in the European Union. As an EU Notified Body, Element can perform the testing, certification, and technical document approval required to achieve radio device compliance for CE marking.

What is the Radio Equipment Directive?

Applicable to all EU Member States, the Radio Equipment Directive, or RED, covers the standards for wireless devices used in the European Union. Introduced in 2016 to replace the R&TTE Directive, it is now the primary legislation for radio transmitting and receiving equipment. You must demonstrate compliance with the RED directive in order to declare your product for CE marking.

Conformity assessment and RED Notified Body services

The Radio Equipment directive requires a conformity assessment body – or Notified Body – to be involved in the conformity assessment procedure. This ensures that all legislative requirements are met, including testing, inspection, and certification, before the Declaration of Conformity can be drawn up and the product placed onto the market.

As Notified Body for the Radio Equipment Directive (2014/EU/53),  Element will review a product’s technical documentation and issue an EC-type examination certificate to confirm that the product meets the essential requirements within the scope of the relevant directive.

We also provide Notified body services for the following related directives:
