Meet with Element's world-renowned Engaged Experts at the 5th International ICEPIM Conference & Exhibition 2019: “Pipeline Integrity Management” March 7-8, 2019 in New Delhi, India.
Why should I attend?
The 5th International Conference & Exhibition on Pipeline Integrity Management (5th ICEPIM) is recognized as the biggest technical conference in India for critical aspects of pipeline integrity. The conference is focusing on sharing knowledge on the latest developments in pipeline integrity management, use and maintenance of aging pipelines, new technologies and materials.
Element's Dr. Basab Bhattacharya will present a paper on the Engineering Critical Assessment (ECA) of Pipelines. He will join Harish Kumar Kannepalli, Technical Manager at Element Mumbai, who will explore a critical case study on the failure analysis of pipeline used for transportation of hydrocarbon products.

Abstract - Engineering Critical Assessment of Pipelines
The Oil & Gas industry has started relying upon Engineering Critical Assessments (ECAs) for developing welding acceptance criteria rather than use conservative workmanship standards. Fracture toughness of welded coupons is a critical input parameter for Engineering Critical Assessment (ECA) as well as ‘fitness for service’ assessments of engineering structures. The present talk will focus on the benefits of conducting Engineering Critical Assessment of pipeline girth welds; standards/specification for ECA; and ECA methodology. ECAs in accordance with API 1104 Annex A as well as DNV OS F101 will be covered, as will Fracture toughness test methodology and the effect of test environments on the fracture toughness of carbon steel welded.
Abstract - Pipeline Failure Analysis - case study
Harish will present findings from a recent analysis of manufactured pipelines for transportation of hydrocarbon products as per API 5L X70. Following an identified fault, the pipelines were subjected to a range of physical, chemical and non-destructive test methods to successfully identify the cause of failure. Harish will discuss his analysis and methods, sharing insights into the testing and examination process.
About the experts
Dr. Basab Bhattacharya is a General Manager at Element Singapore (Formerly Known as Exova Singapore). As an expert in metallurgical, mechanical testing and fracture mechanics testing of metallic materials, He has spearheaded Engineering Critical Analysis (ECA) and RLA activities for several ECAs pipeline installation projects within Asia and Asia Pacific region, working with such companies as Shell, Petronas, Woodside and Aramco. As a Charter Engineer and professional member of IOM3, TWI and member of ASM International, TMS and NACE, Dr Basab has delivered technical presentations in international conferences and published technical papers in peer-reviewed journals.
Harish Kumar Kannepalli is a Technical Manager at Element Mumbai. He has 12 years of experience in the Oil and Gas sector, performing feasibility study for new test setups, running and organizing failure analysis of engineering components and corrosion study of pipelines.
