Element is led by a dynamic group of individuals with many years of experience in their respective leadership and management fields.

The Executive Team meets every month to review the overall performance of the business and also to determine group-wide strategies and priorities.

PRESIDENT & CEO

Jo Wetz

Jo was appointed CEO of the Element Group in 2019, having been the group CFO since 2012 and prior to this a Board member of the Group since the buyout from Stork in 2010. A chartered accountant by training, Jo spent his early career in private equity and invested in a number of global testing businesses both in Europe and the US, including leading the buyout of Element in 2010.

Jo has been instrumental in growing Element from 20 locations in five geographies at the time of the buyout in 2010 into a global business with almost 200 locations in 30 countries with circa 7,000 colleagues, through a combination of strong organic growth and the integration of 28 acquisitions.  Over the last ten years at Element he has led the buyouts with 3i and Bridgepoint as well as the significant minority investment in Element by Temasek.

Interim CFO

Niall McCallum

Niall is currently interim CFO and is responsible for all the finance, procurement, tax and IT activities within the Group.  In his previous role of Group Finance Director, Niall was responsible for the finance operations of the business and for finance transformation across the group.

Niall has responsibility for the four sector finance teams globally, ensuring optimum financial performance, controlled investments in capex and management of working capital. In addition, Niall is focused on ensuring best-in-class finance organization, processes and systems to support our growth trajectory, including the successful integration of acquisitions. Niall has led a number of successful refinancing processes, including the recent minority investment by Temasek.

Niall joined Element in 2017, following a number of years at Capita plc as a Divisional Finance Director. Prior to this, he was an Investment Director at a mid-market UK private equity fund. Niall started his career at KPMG, where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant and worked in corporate finance.

EVP, AEROSPACE

Rick Sluiters

Rick joined Element in 2004, originally as a Business Development Manager responsible for integrating newly acquired laboratories into the organization. He has held General Manager positions for Element’s laboratories in Los Angeles, Detroit and Amsterdam and led several US laboratories through a Lean process transformation.

In 2011 Rick took the position of Vice President of European Operations and formally joined the Element Executive Team. Rick became the Executive Vice President of Aerospace in 2014. Under his leadership the aerospace sector has more than tripled in size and successfully integrated over 10 acquisitions, adding capabilities, capacity and footprint to become the number one provider of aerospace testing services in the world.

EVP, Transportation & Industrials

John Nelson

John joined Element in 2015 having held senior leadership positions in several leading organizations within the global TIC sector including Intertek, and most recently Bureau Veritas.

John possesses a strong background in both operational leadership and continuous improvement, bringing over 20 years of experience in successfully implementing strategic vision, financial performance and capability expansion and business development to both Element and its Executive Team.

Matt Hopkinson
EVP, ENERGY

Matt Hopkinson

Matt joined Element in December 2018, bringing a wealth of testing experience and leadership to the Energy sector.

Prior to Element, Matt was an member of the Group Executive Leadership Team at  Bureau Veritas, and was most recently Senior Vice President responsible for Commodities labs and operations in Europe. Matt has extensive experience in managing global laboratory networks, having held operational and commercial leadership roles in the Americas and Europe, and as well as managing global teams focused on account management, technical governance, systems development and new growth initiatives. 

EVP, Fire & Building Products

Rob Veitch

Rob joined Element through its acquisition of Exova, where he served in a number of leadership roles including Sector Director for Europe and most recently as Managing Director of FBP&C. Through a focused organic and inorganic growth strategy, the sector has more than trebled in size during the five years Rob has been with the business.

Prior to joining Exova, Rob spent over 20 years working with two large, privately owned international businesses operating at director level in sales, marketing and human resources roles. These two businesses serviced a wide variety of sectors including construction, defense, facilities management, building services, automotive, marine, and industrial manufacturing.

Nancy Grosch
EVP, Human Resources

Nancy Grösch

Nancy leads the Group HR function across all of Element’s geographies, responsible for setting and executing the company’s global people strategy. Nancy joined Element in September 2019. With over 20 years’ global experience in HR, she brings deep expertise in linking culture, engagement and performance, as well as implementing large-scale change initiatives. Prior to joining Element, she has worked in senior HR roles for global organisations such as Airbus and General Electric and was most recently Senior Vice President, Head of Global HR & Ethics Officer at Jet Aviation.

EVP, Sales & Commercial Development

Frido Langedijk

 Frido joined Element in January 2017 and is responsible for ensuring that Element consistently operates with best in class commercial processes. Together with his team and working as business partners to support the wider commercial organization, Frido is responsible for driving growth through commercial excellence, tactical marketing initiatives and establishing a high performing, pro-active commercial culture.

He is a strong international leader with more than 25 years commercial, operational and change management experience who has a consistent track record of delivering business improvement through sales growth, innovation, cost management, best practice sharing and high performance leadership.

Prior to joining Element, Frido held a number of international commercial and operational positions and was most recently a Vice President of Sales for Pentair Valves and Controls.

EVP, Corporate Development

Arnout Lijesen

Arnout joined Element in early 2004 and has been a driving force behind the Group’s successful organic and acquisitive growth strategy.

Responsible for defining and executing the Group’s overall growth strategy, Arnout has initiated and supports various transformational activities including: a multitude of bolt-on acquisitions in the USA and Europe; the rebranding from Stork to Element; Element’s continuous improvement and customer service excellence initiatives; and the Group’s entry into China.

Since the carve-out in 2010, Arnout has been focused on leading Element’s highly successful mergers and acquisition program. Under his leadership the Group has acquired and successfully integrated over 25 market leading businesses. Prior to joining Element, Arnout previously worked for Unilever Group Unichema and the management consultant firm Arthur D. Little.

Director of Operational Development

Dominic Murphy

Dominic is responsible for Global Safety, Health & Environment, Quality and Operations Excellence at Element. Dominic is also responsible for leading organization-wide programs including the integration Program Management Office / PMI of the Element Exova Alliance, major capital investments projects and strategy execution. 

He joined Element in 2015 having previously held positions across multiple geographies covering the oil & gas, energy, industrials, investment and consumer sectors. Previous positions included Deloitte and most recently Schlumberger.

Dominic’s experience spans leadership of multiple programs on corporate strategy, corporate development, operational excellence and business improvement, commercial and risk analysis, business case development, due diligence and project management.

Group Communications Director

Andrew Pickup

In this role Andrew is responsible for defining and delivering the Group’s brand and communications program for colleagues, the media and customers.

Andrew joined Element via its acquisition of Exova where he served as Corporate Affairs Director. 

Before Exova, Andrew worked for Compass Group for nine years. He held senior positions in operations management and business improvement in the healthcare business, before becoming Corporate Affairs Director for the UK & Ireland business, responsible for communications, corporate responsibility and public affairs. He spent his early career in the energy and telecoms sectors in a variety of roles covering market analysis, regulatory and public affairs and strategy development.

GROUP Finance Director, ELEMENT

Matthew White

Matthew joined Element in 2012 and helped restructure and establish a new group finance team following the MBO from Stork. He is responsible for a broad range of Group wide finance, tax and treasury initiatives and led the upgrade of the Group’s consolidation system.

Matthew has 11 years of testing sector experience and has worked within private and listed businesses in operational finance, corporate finance, and tax and treasury roles.  Prior to joining Element, he was Group Financial Controller of Inspicio, a rapidly growing acquisitive international testing business backed by 3i. Inspicio was active in over 100 countries and expanded rapidly ranking in the Sunday Times top 20 fastest growing companies by EBITDA growth between 2006 and 2008.

Jane Scadding
Group Procurement Director

Jane Scadding

Jane joined Element in September 2019. In her role she is responsible for the development and implementation of the Group's procurement plan, driving cost optimization across all of Element's operations worldwide, and management of the Group’s property portfolio. Jane has over 20 years’ experience in global procurement, delivering functional transformation across diverse industries and building and developing successful teams to deliver multi-year savings programs. Most recently Jane was Chief Procurement Officer at TalkTalk; prior to this she held executive-level procurement roles with Wincanton and GlaxoSmithKline.

General Counsel & Company Secretary

Neil MacLennan

In this role Neil is responsible for legal, compliance and company secretarial related matters. He joined Element via its acquisition of Exova, where he served as Group General Counsel and Company Secretary.

Neil joined Exova in 2013 where he was responsible for advising on corporate and commercial matters, legal risk management and corporate governance issues. This included managing the legal aspects of the IPO of Exova Group plc in April 2014 and assisting in relation to a significant number of M&A transactions and the sale of Exova to Element in 2017.

Neil’s experience includes a wide range of corporate and capital markets transactions for public and private companies including advising on M&A transactions, takeovers, private equity transactions, joint ventures, compliance with company and securities laws and general corporate governance matters.

Prior to joining Exova, Neil held positions with corporate law firm Dickson Minto in Edinburgh and Allen & Overy in London. He is a qualified solicitor in Scotland, England and Wales.

James Fleming
EVP, Information Technology

James Fleming

James joined the team in 2014 and is responsible for defining and delivering Element’s global IT strategy.

James has over 20 years of IT management and senior leadership experience gained while working for a number of companies operating in a diverse range of industry sectors, including serving as CIO at two FTSE 250 businesses, both with a global footprint.

In addition, James also chairs the UK Chapter of the Microsoft Dynamics AX user community and is a global MVP for Microsoft Dynamics AX.
