On 19th May 2017 the European Commission published the Guide to the Radio Equipment Directive (RED).

This much-awaited guide is intended to serve as a manual for all parties directly or indirectly affected by the Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU (RED). It explains and clarifies some of the most important issues related to the Directive's application. It also aims to disseminate widely the explanations and clarifications reached by consensus among Member States and other stakeholders.

The new document is in line with the New Legislative Framework (NLF) and covers many key features of the directive including manufacturer, authorized representative, distributor and importer responsibilities, Harmonized standards with other EU Directives, and it also includes a comparison of the old R&TTE Directive versus the RED.

It is important to remember that this guide assists in the interpretation of the RED, but cannot replace the application of the directive itself.
