Wireless Power Transfer: What’s all the fuss?: Abstract
Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) is increasingly utilised for devices to charging systems, from charging your portable tech, to charging your electric vehicle or your medical implants. The issue with WPT is that it often operates on frequencies close to other incumbent users, such as radio amateurs and broadcasters (MW bands) and has the potential of being a high-power neighbour to those services, increasing the probability for interference.
Element’s Steve Hayes’ presentation aims to provide an overview of WPT technology and its use cases, before exploring the current regulatory challenges with WPT. It will highlight the potentially confusing situation of which regulations apply to this type of technology (i.e. is it a radio or an ISM product) as well as what is happening behind the scenes in terms of regulatory updates, standardisation and ensuring that harmful interference is avoided.
