After the proper preparation, metallographic specimens are ready to be viewed microscopically with light optical microscopes (LOM), scanning electron microscopes (SEM), an SEM combined with an energy dispersive spectrometer (SEM-EDS), or other techniques like X-ray diffraction (XRD).
