Element’s new dioxin testing laboratory offers the analysis of Dioxins and Furans, Poly-Chlorinated Biphenyls (PCB), and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) in stack emission samples, ash, water, and soil.

Because of their toxic nature, exposure of humans and livestock to dioxins and furans (D&Fs) should be avoided. These pollutants are primarily created during combustion and manufacturing processes in the chemical industry. As a result, D&Fs, PCBs, and PAHs can be found in water, soils, ash, smoke, air, and exhaust gases. As a highly persistent substance, dioxin also accumulates in many foods and subsequently in the human body.

Analyzing samples for dioxins and furans requires highly-trained analysts and specialized equipment. Element’s specialized dioxin testing laboratory uses leading-edge, highly sensitive high-resolution gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (HRGC-MS) to provide ultra-low detection limits utilizing the most up-to-date automated extraction techniques. The Deeside laboratory has a reputation for quality data supported by excellent service and a high level of technical support.

Dioxins and Furans Testing at Element Deeside

The UK Element Deeside laboratory is accredited to ISO 17025 and the MCERTS standard for the analysis of stack emission samples for dioxins, furans, and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB 12). Ash samples are ISO 17025 accredited for D&Fs and PCB 12. In addition, our experienced experts also offer analysis of dioxins and furans, PCB WHO 12, and PAHS on waters and soils. The standard turnaround is 7-10 working days. Faster turnarounds of 3, 4, 5, and 6 days are also available.

Sampling Equipment

For stack emission sampling, Element Deeside provides prepared and spiked XAD-2 resin traps, GFA filters, and glass bottles that comply with sampling to BS EN 1948. For water samples, a 500ml glass, and for soil or ash, a 60g or 250g glass jar is provided. All containers come ready packed with a Chain of Custody and return paperwork. Overnight couriers can be arranged on request.
