London, UK – September 06, 2017 – Exova, the global testing company which was recently acquired by Element Materials Technology is now testing to standard BS 8613.

Testing for BS 8613 covers finger protection devices for mechanical function and structural integrity for use in public doors, with the main purpose of preventing inadvertent injury. Element’s Fire & Building Products division is offering the testing ahead of UKAS approval that is anticipated within the next year, which allows manufacturers to be ahead of the process.

Rob Veitch, EVP Fire & Building Products, comments: “With the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) estimating 40,000 serious accidents a year, largely amongst children, as a result of fingers trapped in doors, development of this standard is an essential step in reducing this figure.

Element is committed to offering our clients a complete range of testing services approved to the very highest levels of excellence.  This test will help improve the quality and functionality of products while giving confidence to buyers that devices have gone through a rigorous testing process. ”

The testing is being undertaken at Element’s 50,000 square foot supersite in Wednesbury, UK which serves the needs of national and international customers in the automotive, door, window and hardware industries. The site offers improved customer service through quicker reporting times, increased availability of equipment, enhanced customer facilities and greater access to complementary skills and expertise.
