London, UK – June 11, 2019 – Dr. Rod Martin, Vice President of Technology at Element, has been awarded the 2019 Leslie Holliday Prize from the British Composites Society (BCS). The prize is in recognition of Dr. Martin’s significant contribution to the field of composite materials.
During the course of his 30 year career, Dr. Martin has been instrumental in increasing the uptake of composite materials by leading a number of research initiatives and joint industry projects that have demonstrated the benefits, increased durability and performance of composites under harsh environments. He is the author of more than 50 scientific and technical publications on advanced materials in aerospace and oil and gas applications and is the editor of two books on composites.
Dr. Martin has also served on a number of committees, including as Chair of ASTM D30.02 on Research and Mechanics between 1990 and 1994 and as Chairman of the British Composites Society between 2009 and 2014. In his current role as Vice President of Technology, he is responsible for technology governance and the development of the Group’s composites and additive manufacturing capabilities across all sectors, globally.
