Bryan Wickson

Bryan Wickson is a subject matter expert in physical characterization of pharmaceuticals and investigational analysis, bringing over 25 years of materials sciences and polymer characterization experience to Element Toronto.
Experience
Bryan Wickson has spent his entire career in product development and analytical materials testing at the same Toronto laboratory, building depth of expertise across more than 25 years as the organization evolved through Bodycote Testing Group, Exova Group, and ultimately Element Materials Technology. Beginning in 2000 as a Scientist in the Polymer Technologies group, he progressed through roles of increasing responsibility – from Manager of Polymer Characterization to Manager of Polymers and Medical Devices – before taking on his current role as Manager, Materials Sciences in 2014, a position he has held continuously through the transition to Element in 2019.
His work spans materials sciences, polymer characterization, physical characterization, failure analysis, product development and medical device testing, with current particular expertise in pharmaceutical applications. Clients benefit from his ability to apply this breadth of experience to new and complex analytical challenges, drawing on an institutional knowledge of the laboratory’s capabilities that few in the industry can match.
Career Highlights
Bryan is recognized as a subject matter expert in investigative physical characterization of pharmaceutical drug products including failure analysis, contaminant analysis and USP <1660>, the pharmacopeial chapter governing evaluation of the inner surface durability of glass containers – a testing area of particular importance for injectable drug products, where glass delamination poses a significant patient safety risk.
