Scott is an EMC and HIRF specialist with decades of experience supporting aerospace, military, automotive, and commercial qualification programs.
Experience
Scott Carlson is an EMI Principal Engineer within Element’s Product Qualification Testing (PQT) organization, supporting EMC programs across more than 20 testing locations in North America. With over 30 years of experience, Scott has deep expertise in aerospace, military, and high‑intensity RF testing, including lightning, HIRF, and reverberation chamber qualification.
Scott began his career in 1990 working with RF systems in the U.S. Marine Corps, focusing on ground‑based radar. He later developed MIL‑STD and aerospace EMC capabilities for TÜV America’s Minneapolis facility. In 2004 he built a new EMC lab for Environ Labs (now Element), and in 2016 he built another EMC lab for NTS (now Element), both of which continue to operate.
He has engineered and operated multiple high‑field reverberation chambers used to meet demanding aerospace and defense requirements such as MIL‑STD‑464, RTCA DO‑160, and ADS‑37A‑PRF. Scott also contributes to standards development through RTCA SC‑135 and SAE AE‑10.
