About Element Portland Milwaukie Laboratory
Element Portland Milwaukie is a specialized metals testing laboratory in the Portland metropolitan area, recognized for high-quality results and industry-leading turnaround times. Formerly an Exova facility, the lab joined Element Materials Technology in 2017 and continues to serve aerospace and advanced manufacturing customers with deep technical expertise.
Chemical testing capabilities include primary element analysis via X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and trace element analysis using ICP-MS, alongside combustion and inert gas fusion (IGF) methods for oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Mechanical testing covers tensile testing per ASTM E8 at both room and elevated temperatures, plus hardness, stress rupture, and Charpy impact testing.
A defining strength of the Portland Milwaukie lab is its metallographic capability. With more than 40 years of combined experience in casting evaluation, the team performs detailed examinations including alpha case detection, intergranular attack and oxidation (IGA/IGO) analysis, grain size determination, porosity assessment, and inclusion evaluation. The lab also supports cut-up planning and tailored test programs for complex components.
Accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 and Nadcap, with approvals from Boeing, Safran, and Honeywell, Element Portland Milwaukie delivers trusted, audited testing services for materials qualification, metallurgical investigation, and safety-critical component assurance.
