The company

The Dubai Metro Project

The requirement

Precast concrete testing

The location

Element Dubai, United Arab Emirates

The tests

Element was approached to help test the infrastructure for the first ever metro system in Dubai. The project included 75 km of track, including 5 km of tunnels, and 47 stations both above and below ground. A total of 5,200 tunnel pre-cast concrete segments and 16,000 viaduct concrete segments were required for the project. Element conducted testing of this concrete from its main Dubai laboratory as well as six sites and 12 mobile laboratories, each strategically located along the route of the Metro to ensure samples were cured at the temperature stipulated by the international test method.

The result

Despite not being a requirement, Element followed the most stringent quality standards by having site testing accredited by UKAS to ISO/IEC 17025 level. This focus on quality gave our customer additional confidence in the data generated and ensured that only fully compliant materials were used in the construction process, in turn ensuring that the investment would stand the test of time.
