What is UKCA Marking Testing and Certification for the GB Market at Element?
UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) marking is the United Kingdom's product conformity marking for goods placed on the market in Great Britain. It confirms your product meets relevant UK legislation. Since October 1, 2024, the Product Safety and Metrology etc. (Amendment) Regulations 2024 recognize the CE marking indefinitely for products covered by 21 product regulations, so most manufacturers can now use UKCA marking, CE marking, or both. At Element, we provide end-to-end UKCA certification, testing and documentation. Whether you combine UKCA with CE or bring a new product to market, we help you demonstrate compliance efficiently.

Frequently asked questions
Is there still a deadline to move from CE marking to UKCA?
No. for most products there is no longer a deadline. The Product Safety and Metrology etc. (Amendment) Regulations 2024, in force since October 1, 2024, removed the previous December 31, 2024 deadline and extended recognition of the CE marking indefinitely for products covered by 21 product regulations. Manufacturers of in-scope products can choose to use the UKCA marking, the CE marking, or both. Separate arrangements and timelines apply to medical devices, construction products, marine equipment, rail products, cableways, transportable pressure equipment, and unmanned aircraft systems.
What products need UKCA marking?
UKCA marking applies to the same product groups that previously required CE marking for the GB market, including electrical and electronic equipment, radio equipment, low voltage equipment, equipment for potentially explosive atmospheres, machinery, toys, PPE, pressure equipment, and more. Because CE marking is now recognized indefinitely for these product groups, UKCA is one of two valid routes rather than a mandatory replacement. UKCA marking is required where mandatory third-party conformity assessment is carried out by a UK Approved Body, and the UK government has retained the power to mandate UKCA for specific regulations in the future.
Can I still use the CE marking to sell in Great Britain?
Yes. For products covered by the 21 regulations in scope of the 2024 legislation, a valid CE marking is accepted indefinitely on the GB market, provided the product meets the relevant EU requirements, including assessment by an EU Notified Body where third-party conformity assessment is mandatory. Element can support the CE route through our CE Marking services and EU Notified Body, or combine CE and UKCA in a single program.
What are the rules for Northern Ireland?
Under the Windsor Framework, goods placed on the Northern Ireland market must carry the CE marking (or the CE marking together with the UKNI marking where a UK body carries out mandatory third-party conformity assessment). The UKCA marking on its own is not valid for Northern Ireland.
Why choose UKCA marking if CE is still accepted?
Several reasons. UKCA certification gives you a direct route to the GB market when a UK Approved Body carries out your conformity assessment. The Fast-Track UKCA process lets you apply the UKCA marking on the basis of recognized EU requirements, so one program can cover both markings at minimal extra cost. And with the Product Regulation and Metrology Act 2025 giving the UK ongoing powers to update its product regime, holding UKCA certification protects your GB market access against future regulatory divergence. There are also some specific cases where there is an advantage to using UKCA over CE, an example being certain wireless devices where there may be additional spectrum or higher power levels allowed in the UK that is not available for use in EU countries.
