Element and Wurth Electronics Seminar, Salford Quays
July 1, 2026Wurth Electronics UK Ltd, Salford Quays, UKWho is this seminar for?
This joint Element and Wurth Electronics seminar is ideal for engineers, compliance professionals, and product managers bringing electronic or connected products to market.
The Element sessions will focus on how to embed compliance and cybersecurity throughout the development lifecycle, avoiding costly delays and rework. Covering key regulations such as RED, PSTI, and the Cyber Resilience Act, alongside Wurth’s practical EMI design expertise, the seminar provides balanced insight from design through to certification.
Details:
Topics Covered
- 09:00-09:30 Arrivals
- 09:30-10:45 EMI Filter Design – Practical Design Considerations, Mohamed AlAlami, Field Application Engineering | Senior Field Application Engineer, Wurth Electronics UK
- Effective filtering of interfaces is crucial for reducing electromagnetic interference (EMI) and ensuring stable operation. By identifying noise paths and coupling mechanisms, designers can implement strategies to minimize noise generation and propagation. Mohamed will investigate some pitfalls of filter design and identify practical design considerations including component selection and layout and tracking. Simulation tools like REDEXPERT play a vital role in validating filter designs as well as optimizing filter components. The product navigator tool will also be presented to identify proposed filters for a wide variety of interfaces (power, analogue and data).
- 10:45-11:15 Break
- 11:15-12:15 Product Compliance - the last hurdle before product launch...or is it? Steve Hayes, Technical Director ‑ Connected Technologies, Element
- With ever increasing product regulations throughout the world, and accounting for an estimated 40% of time and cost of development, leaving compliance to the end is a recipe for delays to product launch. This presentation will talk through the major milestones of product development and, using Element's experience, when to action validation steps.
- 12:15-13:15 Lunch
- 13:15-14:15 EMI Debugging of a Flyback Converter, Mohamed AlAlami, Field Application Engineering | Senior Field Application Engineer, Wurth Electronics UK
- Mohamed will share a case study of a DC/DC Flyback converter, the EMI issues associated with the design and how it can be de-bugged in logical steps, both the theory and practical live measurements. There will be a demonstration and use of a dual channel LISN to then identify which type of noise was being emitted and then the appropriate EMI solutions being implemented and their impact.
- 14:15-14:45 Break
- 14:45-16:00 Product Cyber Security Workshop, Alexander Toohie, Technical Solution Manager and Mustanir Ali, Head of Cyber Product Assurance, Element
- A series of small presentations covering the emerging requirements for product cyber security. In this session Element will explore the applicability of the Radio Equipment Directive, the UK’s PSTI Regime, and the Cyber Resilience Act, as well as emerging schemes such as the FCC’s CyberTrust Mark. Alexander and Mustanir will cover the applicability of each piece of legislation, the timelines of enforcement and repeal, and questions on scope. These presentations will also cover what the technical requirements for products are, how these might be demonstrated in practice, and the conformity assessment processes available to manufacturers.
